Um... It was this world that was full of these monsters they called fiends that would attack people and corrupt them, and... a-and the two of us had, like, memories of different lives in that world, and it was like we'd always been there?

But, anyway, the world was close to ending, and the only way to stop it at that point would be going back in time to prevent the incident that set everything off hundreds of years earlier, so that's what we were trying to do.
To go between times, we had to just walk through this white void for like? Forever? And then when we finally got to one of the gates, we'd go through that to end up at some point in the past, and when we got there it was like suddenly all the time we'd spent walking in the void caught up with us and we were just starving and needed water really bad...
[ and just remembering that makes him hungry again, so he pauses for a few spoonfuls of soup.
[she will let him eat! she also pushes the bread towards him.]
... Jeeze. Okay. [this sounds like a jan cyoa] So... saving the world, walking through a void, nearly starving to death. What else happened? You obviously all ran into trouble.
The first time we didn't go far enough back, so we had to do it two more times... but each time we'd kind of end up in situations that gave us more clues about what was going on, and all of them were linked together somehow? Uh, the second one of those was... kind of rough.
[ ... ]
B-but the third time, we finally got back to the moment right before the big disaster, where this spirit was going to lose these people it loved and get taken over by despair and turn into the big evil thing that was ruining the world! ...I didn't really... understand what the plan was supposed to be when we first got there. I-I guess I thought maybe I could just, like, convince it not to lose it over whatever was going to happen?
But... those people turned out to be Bradley and Jason, who had gotten corrupted somehow before we got there and were turning into fiends themselves. And the spirit was just... this scared kid who I guess had been living with them as a family for a while.
W-well... they started attacking us, and then we remembered what this spirit we'd talked to in another time had said — that the only cure for that kind of corruption was... something that would be left behind when you destroyed a spirit. So... I told him I'd tell him how he could save them while Cloud kept fighting them off.
[ he's tearing up again now, and sets the spoon back down so he can wipe his eyes. ]
And I told him what they told us. That if he wanted to save them, he had to die... and if he didn't, then he'd have to live with that.
[ he hugs her back tight... probably getting tears and snot on her clothes, which he'll have to apologize for later. ]
He was scared and he didn't want to do it, but he agreed to. And... there wasn't any time, and Cloud was still fighting both of them... a-and I had a knife, so...
[augh. this breaks her heart. she pulls him close and hugs him tightly, petting his hair. she doesn't seem to mind if he snots on her clothes, she's had worse.]
I know, b-but still... When they finally snapped out of it they asked where he was, and I just... a-and his cat had to see it happen, and then it hated me...
[she says, softer.] It's okay to feel like it happened, and to feel the effects of it - it's hard. But in the end you have to remember this is just something that was pulled out of someone's head to fuck with you.
How do I know it really wasn't, though?? I mean— I know some of it wasn't, 'cause my memories were all mixed up with someone else's, but... I still had his blood on me...
