Well, um... no, I just finished school and got my badge and everything a little over a month ago. I've handled a couple of really important murder investigations, though! [ poorly, and edgeworth made him look like an idiot during both of them. ] But tomorrow was supposed to be my first day actually trying a real case in court.
...Um, aside from the other time this happened, I mean, but I don't think that really counts because that court was really messed up and they didn't follow any of the rules. Even after I told them how it was supposed to work!
... Oh, you mean like, trials in these things? Yeah, that's kangaroo court, you might just wanna call those a wash. Miles figured that out pretty quick.
[she tilts her head.] Well, hey, you know more than I do. Not like I've ever been to lawyer school or whatever. [she is fantasy nasa but she's letting him have this one.]
I mean, yeah, I know pretty much everything about prosecution, even if I haven't officially tried a case yet! I won all my mock trials at school and lots of competitions and stuff! That's why they call me The Best!

I was excited to have a chance with this trial to show him what I can do and make him proud! Luckily it was still the same day I'd left when I got home last time, even though I'd been really worried that whole time about missing it. I didn't... think I'd have to worry about this with that same trial again, though... This is the longest four days ever.
[ on the bright side, he guesses he doesn't have to worry about his dad being disappointed in him for potentially missing his trial this time... but this really, really isn't how he would have wanted that to happen. ]

The Best! Wow, I'm in the presence of a celebrity. [she gives him a little grin.] This is gonna sound so depressing, but maybe you'll get some more practice time in before you go back.
[ okay, he likes the celebrity part, and he looks a little smug about it for a few seconds before he loses his cool again. ]
Ugh, see that's the thing!! Last time I agreed to be in their weird study because they said they'd give us anything we wanted as a reward, and I wanted, like, instant courtroom experience. Which, you know, I don't need, because I'm already the best, but I just wanted to be extra sure I didn't disappoint Pops! And then people died and I got experience, even if it was that really dumb fake court, and I thought maybe that was them granting my wish, but like one of those cursed rabbit foot wishes, and that everyone was dying because of me!
Then when everything was over and we got to go home, they gave us these magic coupons that we were supposed to be able to redeem to really get our wishes. And I don't know how that was actually supposed to work, but this morning was one day before the trial, so I thought hey, might as well see if I can use this now that I'm back and everything's safe! And then almost as soon as I took it out of the envelope, this whole thing started!
Yikesarooni, the universe really doesn't like you, huh? [this poor kid!!] Look, I can't really give you any silver linings without lying to your face pretty blatantly. This sucks. I don't want to give you empty platitudes.
We really just have to weather it. We don't have any other choices.

It just feels like these bad things keep happening because of me. Like, maybe no one would be in these situations if I didn't make these stupid wishes.
