[ hmm... this new hallway and all its doors seem pretty suspicious, and sebastian really should have learned after the last game to not explore suspicious places alone.
but apparently he didn't, so he's carefully turning the knob to one of the unlocked rooms and peeking inside. ...it looks pretty normal in there? kind of like the hall he's in now, actually. ]
You get to pick the location, because I'm tired. But otherwise Marie has been trying her best to avoid interacting with anyone in the off chance they'll be forced to get a peek into her past. However, it doesn't seem to be working very well. ]
Sebastian-kun, please -- [ She wants to plead for him to not look but... How do you even stop this? The stardust is falling, and soon the memory begins to settle --
“Don’t touch me. You’ll make me all gross and dirty too.”
“Hey, Marie-chan, you stink!”
Shadowed faces come to mock you; young children with sinister smiles, grinning from ear-to-ear.
“My mom said I shouldn’t play with Marie-chan.”
“Oh, my mom said that, too!”
The young girls would huddle together in a group with hushed whispers, and soon a group of boys would approach with tiny fingers yanking at your hair. You remain still, unmoving, and it frustrates one boy in particular as he pulls you to the ground by your braid.
“Man, she really stinks!”
As you move to cover your head, you feel a foot cram itself against your side. You lose your breath, feeling your lunch coming back up but quietly swallow it back down; curling into yourself.
“Don’t come this way, you’ll spread your germs on us!”
... When they finally decide to leave, you lift yourself up onto your feet. Your bag had been stomped flat, your books are all over your desk, and almost routinely you gather your belongings. You feel nothing. You feel empty. And, coincidentally enough, you feel as if you're not alone --
“Come over to my house and play with me, Marie-chan!”
A girl who you're not particularly close to asks, just as you look as if you've gone through hell. She smiles brightly at you, and again you feel as if you may vomit.
“Okay? Let’s go to my place and eat snacks together.”
You keep quiet as you follow her home, and you remain that way as her mother welcomes you warmly.
“Welcome. Please feel free to take your time.”
The house was well-kept, similar to your home with your grandparents. But there's just a few noticeable differences that makes your blood boil, one of them being the freshly made cake that the two of you begin to devour just before you tugged along on an epic journey of show-and-tell.
“I got this one for my birthday. And this one for Christmas!”
(It’s strange…)
Your classmate would leave her shoes at the front door without arranging them neatly, and she didn’t even clear the plate after finishing her cake. She wouldn’t even put away the dolls after we played with them. But her mother wouldn’t yell at her or beat her up, and wouldn’t say anything beyond something like “goodness…” as she cleaned it all up.
It wasn’t just you. Nobody was getting beaten up in this house.
—Why?
The realization hit harder than anything you've experienced in your life. There's the phantom pain of your cheek stinging as you remember coming home just yesterday: the boys had thrown a mud ball at you, and in return your grandfather slapped and beat you for stepping into the house unkempt.
You're angry. So angry.
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why do I have to go through this?
Before leaving her house you take her favorite doll, hiding it in your school backpack. Once outside and having made it to a nearby garbage can you tear the doll apart -- ripping off it's head, the arms, legs, and then tossing it in the can.
sebastian hadn't gotten to know marie well enough to even suspect she might have gone through anything like that — even if maybe he should have from her scary moments during trials, but as he's so often reminded, he's never been as good at putting two and two together as he likes to think he is — so it's shocking for that on top of everything else. it's awful and sad and...
and feeling that anger is strange and foreign. maybe it's just because this is on such a different scale; maybe if pops had hurt him this much he'd be mad too... but he has a hard time imagining it. he's always accepted that he just isn't good enough for him, and he's never stopped admiring and adoring him. ever since monday, people who've seen those memories have told him that he should be mad too, and shouldn't just take it, but...
it takes him a moment to shake himself out of it when the memory's over. ]
[ everything about this week is terrible, and sebastian kind of just wants to lock himself up and get away from all of it. ...but marie's had pretty much the same bad week he's had, with the memories and injuries and this, and she'd looked really bad at the end of the trial, so...
sometime in the evening, he goes over to her room and tentatively knocks on the door, even if he's still kind of nervous about whatever that other personality is. it's fine. he'll just go back to his own room if she doesn't want him there. ]
[ yeeeeeeeah he was kind of afraid of this but.... HERE HE IS I GUESS... he already almost got murdered by one fucking malice monster this week, so what's one more. ]
[ Her suite is very modern with neutral colors; unsurprisingly it's minimalist with a few fake plants as decoration. There's a desk that hugs a small corner of her room that includes an unworkable computer and keyboard on the side, as well as a few fake books with various titles about composing music. There are also several open cans of sodas from the vending machine lined up against her desk.
Her bed is simple, with a little more extra pillows. Perhaps he'll see.. k*rby somewhere, if that exists in his canon idk. A white closet and lastly there's a small table with a single pair of seats. It's a very plain room for a very plain girl. :)
There's probably clothes on the floor but don't freak. Sebastian sees his first bra. ]
[ he blinks at how quick and firm that answer is, but he guesses it shouldn't be surprising. he definitely doesn't have the whole story, but he has some of it, and, well, he certainly saw her during the trial.
week 0 monday (neverending hallways room)
but apparently he didn't, so he's carefully turning the knob to one of the unlocked rooms and peeking inside. ...it looks pretty normal in there? kind of like the hall he's in now, actually. ]

Marie's actually down the hallway he's peering in, in which she jumps. ]
Ah!?
no subject
What are you doing in there?
no subject
But I went through another and -- this isn't a circle, is it?
no subject
[ opening the door all the way and stepping inside for a better look ]
It looks like a straight hallway? Which door did you come out of?
[ aaand he hears the door close behind him, whoops ]
1/2

points at the door that closed behind him. ]
no subject
[ turns back around and opens it!
...to, somehow, another copy of the same hallway they're in. ]
W-wait...
no subject
I'm unsure of what happened, exactly, but since I came through the first door it's been like this.
week 0 friday
I really wish you guys hadn't been right.
no subject
To be fair, I wanted to hope that we could avoid this.
[ But here she's going to bring him over some Stralight C*la. ]
You're familiar with trials though, right? Tomorrow... it'll be a long day, but please don't overexert yourself.
no subject
I tried looking around in case I could find any clues now, but... well, the floor in the gift shop was weird? But I'm not sure what was wrong with it.
no subject
Weird?
no subject
Uh, it was? Sticky, sort of? I'm not really sure how to describe it.

Marie...
S-sorry, I didn't mean to...

[ She lifts her hands. Fingers curling into her palms as her shoulders slump back. ]
I'm sorry you had to see that.

In a way... it feels like I'm looking into the memory of a different person, so I just feel as invasive as you do.
week 3, saturday

She's still Wicked! Which means there's a 50/50 chance he'll leave here running. But she opens the door, glaring with her eyes completely red. ]
...
You look like shit.
[ She steps out a little and let's him in. ]
no subject
...Yeah, I know. Feel like it too.

It's not gonna get any better tomorrow, either.
no subject
this is such a stark contrast to his own room, though, which is so unmistakably his. this one is pretty, and feels really light, but. hm. ]
I know. [ ... ] Do you think... they're gonna make you do it?
[ this place seems to have a history of picking these things based on emotional involvement, anyway. ]
no subject
[ She doesn't hesitate. ]
They better. I need to do this. I can't let anyone do this -- If anyone else kills him, I'll just end up killing them.
no subject
he nods. ]
...Okay. Then... I hope they let you.
[ ... ]
Are you gonna be okay after that?
no subject
What do you think?
Will you?
w4 ( friday )
Sebastian-kun, are you alright?
no subject
Y-yeah, I'm okay. How about you?
I wanted to ask how you were doing earlier, but the party didn't seem like a great place to do that...
[ i'm sorry my being busy for the first half of the week made him look like a jerk lol ]
no subject
It's a bit unexpected... [ rupert ] I'm fine, though, it's... definitely been a week. But what about yourself?
no subject
no subject
I’m sure this is all new for you. I’m so sorry.
no subject
Yeah... it was just two weeks. It still hurt a lot when some of them died, but... it's definitely harder when you spend this much time with them.
no subject
I remember some took my execution as a relief, because of my other half -- so I'm glad that no one here seems to have a similar response.
w4 ( saturday )
Once she finds him she’s on mom mode. ]
Have you gotten yourself something to eat?
no subject
[ He kind of manages a smile, even if it's forced. ]
Um, not yet... I was thinking I'd go down to the restaurant for a sandwich or something in a little bit. How about you?
no subject
[ She offers a smile; sweet and casual. ]
no subject
[ to the restaurant! ]
no subject
She'll find them a table and take a seat immediately. ]
It's good to eat after these events -- it's easy to forget, sometimes.
